Renewed visual/ Blog de cara nova

Hello everybody! After some years keeping the same visual of this blog, I've decided renew its appearance doing a new art which was used on the blog's banner, new icons and a new layout. This post has the intention to show you my creative process for this illustration.

First of all I did a sketch and then I've scanned it in order to do adjustments on Photoshop. As you can see, some elements of the composition were left out.

Olá meu povo! Depois de alguns anos com a mesma cara, resolvi mudar um pouco o visual do meu humilde blog. E esse post é para mostrar um pouco do processo de criação do novo topo.

Primeiramente fiz um esboço, que depois foi digitalizado. Como podem ver, alguns elementos foram deixados de fora, como a segunda caveira e o layout de comics.

Then I did the layout of the composition at Photoshop, with the aim to have an ideia of the final result. I've used a logotype I've done in another occasion to complete the composition, but it was changed as a matter of aesthetic. Maybe I'll use it some day in another personal work.

Em seguida montei um layout no Photoshop de como eu queria que ficasse a ilustração. Usei um logotipo que eu havia criado em outra ocasião para completar a composição, mas depois acabei substituindo-o por uma questão estética.

With the layout defined, I did the line art and I started applying the basic colors and subsequently the blocks of the lights and shadows.

Com o layout definido, eu fiz a arte final e comecei a definir a cor base para ter uma idéia do clima da ilustração e em seguida comecei a trabalhar os blocos de luz e sombra.

The next step was soften the areas of light and shadows, as on the microphone, on the glare of the lens on the glasses, on the hair and I did the drop shadows.

Feito isso, passei para a etapa de finalização do trabalho, suavizei os blocos de luz e sombra e comecei a trabalhar melhor as áreas de luz do microfone, do cabelo, o reflexo das lentes e as sombras projetadas.

That done, it was time to refine the highlights and apply the textures of the illustration, I did it in the bones, on the metallic surface of the microfone,  on the background, on the kerchief tied to the arm of the skeleton and on the glass breaking inside of the hole where the character is. Then I did some variations of the new logotype and I've chosen that which best harmonizes with the illustration and I applied it on the composition.

Depois dessa etapa, chegou a hora da "joalheiria", afinar ainda mais os detalhes e acrescentar as texturas dos ossos do esqueleto, da superfície metálica do microfone, do background, do lenço amarrado ao braço do esqueleto e por fim do vidro quebrando na parte interna da "janela" em que está o personagem. Depois de fazer alguns testes com o novo logotipo, escolhi àquele que harmonizou melhor com a arte e adicionei-o à composição e fiz o recorte do quadro.

Finally, I added some light reflections and thus the illustration was completed.

Por fim eu adicionei algumas luzes de reflexo e desta maneira concluí a arte que compõe o topo do meu rejuvenescido blog.

I also did the icons of the social networks following the idea of the illustration in order to harmonise them.

Também criei os botões de redes sociais seguindo o mesmo padrão da ilustração com o intuito de criar harmonia entre eles.

Watercolor studies: part 3 - Estudos em aquarela: parte 3

Hello everybody!

That's the third post of watercolor studies and this time I would like to show some paintings of characters. The first is a military bunny which I've created just for fun (don't let him down, cause he has a carrot bazooka) and the second one is a character created by my friend and screenwriter Cadu Simões, his name is Cricket Rider and as you can see, he's a parody of the famous Tokusatsu Kamen Rider, a genre of Japanese Super Heroes. Cadu is also the creator of another super hero similar to this, called Cricket-man (the original name is Homem-Grilo). You can see another fanart here.

Fala meu povo!

Esse é o meu terceiro post com estudos de aquarela e dessa vez eu resolvi mostrar dois estudos de personagens. O primeiro é um coelho militar que eu criei apenas por diversão (é melhor não irritá-lo, ele tem uma bazuca de cenoura e sabe usá-la) e o segundo é um personagem criado pelo meu amigo e roteirista Cadu Simões, seu nome é Cricket Rider e ele é uma sátira da famosa série de Tokusatsu Kamen Rider. Outro personagem do Cadu é o Homem-Grilo, o grande bastião da Justiça de Osasco City!!! Fiz um fanart dele uns posts atrás, pra quem quiser ver.

Despite having a guy in the center of the watercolor standing out in the scene. I think it is possible to consider it a landscape painting, right? =D

Watercolor studies - Estudos em aquarela

I'm back to the posting routine with some watercolor studies I've been doing in the Painting Techniques course of Quanta Academy of Arts, oriented by my dear teacher Davi Calil. I'm just getting started with the watercolor but I'm really enjoying this technique. I hope improve each study I do and sooner use it in my professional works.

Andei um tempo sem postar, mas enfim voltei e com alguns estudos de aquarela que venho fazendo no curso de Técnicas de Pintura da Quanta com o querido mestre Davi Calil. Ainda estou engatinhando, mas posso dizer que estou gostando muito dessa técnica. Espero melhorar a cada estudo e em breve começar a utilizá-la em meus trabalhos.

Music to the moon light/ Música à luz da lua

Hello everybody!

That's my first update in 2012 and I'll start with a commission which I did at the end of the last year, whose the purpose was make a decorative skin for a notebook. The client wanted an illustration that represented its personality through its likes and its preferred activities. So, the central idea was to combine their passions, which are music, dance, theater and the moon into a joyful illustration, whose the characters, in the apse of their performances, expressed satisfaction for what they are doing.

Olá à todos!

Esse é o meu primeiro post de 2012 e começo com uma comission feita no final do ano passado, cuja finalidade era ser transformada em um skin para computador. A cliente queria uma ilustração que a representasse através das suas atividades preferidas e a idéia central foi de unir as suas grandes paixões, que são a música, a dança, o teatro e a lua em uma ilustração que tivesse um clima alegre e que cujos personagens, no momento máximo de suas atuações, expressassem o sentimento por aquilo que fazem.

Billy: The Shih Tzu

Olá a todos!

Ilustra de cãozinho da raça Shih Tzu feita com lápis de cor.

Seu nome é Billy e ele é o cachorro de estimação de uma prima da minha namorada. Esse final de semana foi o casamento dela e o Billy entrou com as alianças de roupa de gala e tudo. Seu eu soubesse disso antes, o teria feito de terninho. Bom... Mas nada impede que eu o faça novamente com um novo look.

Hello everybody!

That's an illustration of a Shih Tzu dog made with colored pencils.

Its name is Billy and it's the pet of my girlfriend's cousin. She married last week and this likeable dog entered on the church dressing black tie and carrying the wedding rings. Maybe I'll make another version of it, but this time more elegant. What you think?

Good Night 11-11-11

Olá pessoal, tudo bem?

Como todos já devem estar cansados de saber, o dia 11-11-11 causou uma certa polêmica mundo à fora. Eu estava quietinho no meu canto, fazendo uns estudos de luz e sombra e depois de tanto ouvir as pessoas criando teorias sobre o assunto, eu resolvi unir o útil ao agradável e deixar a minha singela contribuição para relembrarmos desse dia cabalistico.

Já que eu não postei nada no Halloween, essa ilustra já fica valendo para ele também!

Como todos sabemos, não aconteceu lhufas nenhuma, como sempre. Então boa noite!

Helo everybody!

As everybody knows, today (11-11-11) was a polemic day around the world. And then that I've passed the whole day listening theories of the people about this subject I've decided to do my contribution in order to remember this cabalistic day.

As I didn't do anything thinking about the Halloween, you can consider this as a drawing in honor of Halloween too.

Well, as happens in all the cabalistic days, the people are hysterical and the day ends without anything happening.

Utada Hikaru - Digital painting study

Olá pessoal! Tudo bem?

Enfim voltei e dessa vez com mais um estudo de pintura digital!

Pra quem não conhece a moça, ela se chama Utada Hikaru e é uma cantora de J-Pop muito famosa não somente no Japão, é bem conhecida do público brasileiro e americano também. Pra quem não sabe a música de abertura do jogo Kingdom Hearts, chamada Hikari, é dela.

Nesse estudo o objetivo era usar um tipo de pincel mais duro e que tivesse uma aparência seca, como a de tinta acrílica por exemplo. Algo totalmente diferente do que fiz no post anterior.

O mais interessante e desafiador desse trabalho foi fazer o retrato de uma mulher com traços delicados usando essa técnica de pincéis duros e texturizados. Algo quase inconcebível para um chato de galocha perfeccionista como eu, que tive de soltar o traço na marra. De vez em quando me pegava alisando demais o desenho, mas superei o trauma e sabe que eu até gostei.

Farei mais trabalhos nesse estilo daqui por diante! É uma promessa!

Hello everybody!

That's a digital painting study I've made using a picture of the J-pop singer Utada Hikaru as reference. For those who don't know, the opening song of the game Kingdom Hearts, called Hikari, was composed and sung by her.

In this work I used a Photoshop brush more texturized, completely diferente of what I did in the illustration of the last post. I have to confess that draw using a texturized brush in a girl so delicate was a little bit challenging for a boring perfectionist guy like me. I had to paint it of an unpretentious way and I ended up liking it.

I going to do more works like this hereafter. That's a promisse!

Hellboy

Olá pessoal!

Depois de muitas horas na frente do computador, que me proporcionaram dores nas costas, ombros, olhos, calos nos dedos, além de ter contribuído satisfatoriamente no processo de achatamento da minha bunda, enfim concluí essa ilustra, que foi de longe, a mais trabalhosa e desafiadora que já fiz (até o presente momento).

Esse Hellboy foi o meu primeiro exercício de pintura digital que fiz para o curso de Ilustração Digital na Quanta e foi feita toda digitalmente.

Gostei muito de trabalhar com esse estilo de pintura e espero melhorar cada vez mais.

Obrigado àqueles que comentam, apenas olham, indicam ou que de alguma forma contribuem para a divulgação do meu trabalho.

Hello everybody!

After many hours in front of the computer, I got back pain and shoulder, eyes, calloused fingers, and satisfactorily I sped the process of flattening of my ass. But in compensation I finally got to finish this illustration which was the most laborious and challenging that I've did (to the present).

This "Helboy illustration" was the first exercise of digital painting which I've did in the Digital Illustration lessons of Quanta (a famous school of illustration and comics in Brazil) and which was totally done in photoshop.

I really enjoyed to practice this technique of digital painting and I hope improve my skills day by day.
